Modern medicine

Medicine compriseth 2 divisions, dealing respectively with Causes & Cures

There are 6 causes: Air, exercise & rest, elimination & replenishment, food & drink, sleeping & remaining awake, emotion

These are called causes, because they produce & maintain health …

Every medical cure occureth either internally or externally. Internal cures are those which are introduced into the body by the mouth, nose, ears or anus … External cures are for example bandages, poultices, plaster.

Surgery is of two sorts, either cutting, sewing or cauterising the flesh; or setting & bandaging the bones …
